Designer – Author – Educator

Moorea Hoffman has been professional kitchen and bath designer since 2002. She has designed home renovations throughout Los Angeles, Orange, and San Diego Counties. She consults on projects across the nation and internationally.

Moorea grew up surrounded by a marriage of food and design. She visited construction sites with her contractor father and helped out in her mother’s catering company, Decadent Dining, as early as the age of seven. While in college, Moorea began her apprenticeship in design with her godfather, Donald Silvers, Certified Kitchen Designer (CKD), a retired chef and Principal of Kitchen Design with Cooking in Mind. During her junior year, Moorea lived in Aix-en-Provence, France, where her interest in cooking developed into a passion. She took cooking classes with the renowned chef, Bruno Ungaro of L’Amphytrion restaurant. It was during these evenings of learning about fine dining that her love of cooking and interest in design coalesced into the desire to follow her godfather’s footsteps as a kitchen designer.

After completing a Bachelors degree in English Literature at Scripps College, Moorea went to work for Expo Design Center in the outdoor grill department. She quickly moved to appliances and on to countertops and cabinetry. After only fourteen months she became a designer. During this time, she continued to train with Don. Her extensive appliance experience was an integral part of the revision of his book Kitchen Design with Cooking in Mind, copyright 2003.

Moorea then went to work for The Great Indoors as a kitchen and bath designer. In 2004, she joined Don as a principal at his firm, Kitchen Design with Cooking in Mind, where she co-authored Kitchen Appliances 101: What Works, What Doesn’t and Why, 2005, available at Amazon.com. This ground-breaking textbook for homeowners and the design community alike is now being used as a kitchen design curriculum, accredited by the Interior Design Education Council.

Moorea founded Kitcheneering in 2008 to bring the “Design with Cooking in Mind” philosophy to her home community of Orange County. She currently lives in San Clemente, CA and practices design in Orange County, San Diego and Los Angeles. She is working on a new design book featuring eleven case studies of kitchen remodels and how ordinary was transformed to optimal.
